Is NipponGo free?
Yes. The JR Pass details, per-leg Suica and JR Pass validity, offline Survival Kit phrasebook, area guides, and bookmarks are all free, with no account required and no limit on how much you save. If you would like to support development, you can leave an optional tip from the settings icon on the Guide tab, under "Support NipponGo."
Does the app work offline?
Yes. All core content (the JR Pass details, route guides with Suica and JR Pass validity, the Survival Kit phrasebook, and area guides) works fully offline. No internet connection is required once you have installed the app.
How current are the JR Pass prices and fares?
Fares and JR Pass prices refresh from a live source when you are online, so they stay current without waiting for an app update. They are honest 2026 estimates, so confirm the final price at the station. For the current official prices, check the JR Pass official site before your trip.
How do I get the JR Pass?
NipponGo links you straight to the official Japan Rail Pass, so you can buy it before you fly and have it ready the moment you land. The 7-day ordinary pass is about 50,000 yen and covers most Shinkansen and JR trains along the Golden Route between Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima, plus many city JR lines.
Can I request a refund for a tip?
Yes. Refund requests are handled by the App Store or Google Play, not by us. On iOS: open the App Store, tap your profile, then Purchases, find the purchase, and tap Report a Problem. On Android: visit the Google Play Help Center for refund instructions.
How do I delete my saved data?
NipponGo stores everything locally on your device. To delete all data, simply uninstall the app. No data is stored on our servers, so there is nothing to request deletion of on our end.
