How to play
Ropes rest on pegs across a wooden board, and some cross over others. A card is solved when no rope crosses another.
- Touch a loose rope end and drag it to an empty peg.
- A rope with another lying across it stays put, so order matters. Move the one on top first.
- Turn the board with a finger to see which rope is on top. It stays at the angle you leave it.
- Undo is free, as often as you like.
- Stuck? Tap the bulb for one good move. That card can then earn two stars at most.
Solve a card and tap Next. To move on without solving it, tap Skip at the bottom of the screen. The card waits for you in Progress.
Common questions
How do stars and the score work?
Every card has a par: the fewest moves it is known to need.
- Three stars: solved inside par, with no hint.
- Two stars: up to two moves over par, or inside par with a hint.
- One star: any other solve.
Fewer moves and a quick solve raise the score. Your best stars and score on each card are kept, and they never go down.
Is there a timer?
There is a clock, and it only counts up. It starts at your first touch, pauses while you are out of the app or in Settings or Progress, and never runs out.
A slow solve still counts. The clock only shapes the time bonus.
What is Today's knot?
One card a day, the same for everyone, at the top of Progress. A new one arrives at midnight UTC.
Solve it on consecutive days and your streak grows. Miss a day and the streak starts again, but your longest streak is kept.
How do I see my progress or replay a card?
Tap the card number at the top of the screen, then “See your progress”. Tap a chapter to open its cards, and tap a card to replay it.
What is the Workshop?
The Workshop sits at the bottom of Progress. The stars you earn unlock rope palettes, board woods and peg finishes, and each locked one shows how many total stars it needs. Your choice applies to every card at once.
Where are the settings?
Tap the gear at the top right of the screen. In Settings you can:
- turn sound and haptics on or off
- choose Studio, Midnight or your system theme
- restart the card you are on
- open “How to play” again
- clear your progress
Do I need an account?
No. Progress is saved on your device. Twistio gives your device a random id on its own, so a ranked score can reach the board without an account.
How do the daily knot and Rush 90 boards work?
Finish the ranked daily knot or the weekly Rush 90 and Twistio sends your time, your moves and a display name to the board. The app makes up the display name for you from a word list; you never type one.
Your device also has a random id, created the first time you open the app. It lets your entries reach the right place on the board.
Want an entry removed? See removing your board entries in our privacy policy.
How do I clear my progress?
Open Settings, tap “Clear progress” at the bottom and confirm. Stars, scores and the streak are removed from this phone. Entries already sent to the board stay there; see removing your board entries in our privacy policy.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Everything you need to play is on your device, Today's knot included. Leaderboards need a connection to send your scores.
How does difficulty change?
By card number, the same for everyone. Each chapter adds one step: more ropes, fewer free pegs or deeper stacks, from two ropes up to six. From card 161 the chapters keep going with six ropes.
Does Twistio cost anything?
Twistio is free to play. Spool packs are consumable in-app purchases, bought through the App Store or Google Play, and there is no subscription.
What if my spools do not arrive after a purchase?
Close the app fully and reopen it. This restores a purchase the store already completed.
Still missing? Email support@iocodo.com with your device model and roughly when you bought them.
How do I turn off notifications?
Open your device's notification settings for Twistio and turn off permission. Notifications are optional.
How do I report illegal content?
Email support@iocodo.com to report anything in Twistio you believe is criminal or illegal. Tell us where you saw it, for example the display name on a board.
